Suzy Pukys

Suzy Pukys began her nonprofit career in Georgetown in 2002 at The Georgetown Project, a child and youth advocacy organization. In 2004, she became Southwestern University’s first Director of Civic Engagement. Through this position, Suzy built bridges between the University and the greater nonprofit community by connecting student learning and passion for social action to local, state, and national issues and organizations.

Suzy came to the Georgetown Health Foundation (GHF) as its first Director of Community Resources in 2012, focused on expanding the organization’s philanthropic programs, particularly its grant making. In addition to revamping the Foundation’s grants process, she nurtured programs beyond funding including capacity-building programs for area nonprofits in partnership with United Way of Williamson County and the development of a common grant application in an effort to reduce the grant writing burden for the nonprofit sector, which was adopted by several local funders. Suzy’s work as Vice President of Strategic Philanthropy extends GHF’s responsive grant making to targeted efforts that meaningfully address social determinants of health.

Beyond these professional roles, Suzy has actively participated as a leader on several government and nonprofit boards centering on poverty, housing, mental health, education, domestic violence, and youth. Prior to moving to Georgetown, she worked in the private sector as a writer and graphic designer in the health care and educational publishing industries. Suzy holds an MA in English from the University of Delaware and a BA in English and History from Hiram College.
